When I'm using Photoshop Elements to work on my RAW files, I like to open them in ACR, because I have other image editing and retouching software that I use for the rest of my work. As I process the RAW files, I can open them in Elements and then have the finished results automatically posted to ACR to be seen. I'll display the results in Elements but use ACR for final image editing. After I have everything processed, I open the images in ACR, which is to say that I open both the Elements version and the ACR version of the file. The original RAW file is still associated with the original raw sensor that shot the picture and is saved at the same location as the ACR version, which is where I can access it. I can always get the original RAW file back if I want it (and if I have the file). In ACR, you can crop, lighten, or darken an image (see Figure 14-4). You can also apply a crop, create a new file, make a selection, and so on. All the original RAW data, including the individual RAW values for each pixel, remains intact and is simply set aside for the user to select as a source for processing. Figure 14-4 shows an image before processing and a selection from a layer of the image. FIGURE 14-4: You can use ACR to edit RAW files in Photoshop or Elements. ## Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Photoshop is not the only company that offers the ability to edit a large number of images at once; Adobe also owns Lightroom. Lightroom is an excellent image editor, as well as a method for organizing and viewing images that are under the control of Lightroom. Lightroom works with the RAW files from your camera as well as files created by the camera and the other Photoshop program. You can edit them all in the same program, but I recommend opening the RAW files in Lightroom and using the other program primarily for working with the JPEGs (digital photos that are converted from the RAW format). Q: Web App to run on client's server and access EC2 from local machine I have an application written in ASP.NET that I would like to run on the client's local machine. It's more or less a desktop application (is that correct?). The client wants to access it from his phone, so he needs to run it as a web app. My question is: can I setup an EC2 instance with IIS running on it and can the client access the instance from his local machine? The reason I would like to do this is so that he can run it directly from his phone, without having to install a visual studio and build for his phone. You just need to make sure that the client's phone has internet access to your server that they are trying to access. And if they want to be able to edit the application when it's running they will need something more than just a browser and a regular phone. You might want to look into AirPlay, which allows the client to interact with the application directly using their iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. Alternately, if they really want to be able to edit the application, they can install the free Google App Engine SDK for Python and run a web server on their machine that will allow them to edit files.
